A little blog about the history of Abingdon and stuff to do around this quirky town in Oxfordshire
Abingdon and St Helen’s Church seen from the River Thames in August 2021
Dear blog (I’d say reader, but since this blog doesn’t have those yet, it’s dear blog). Together with my family, I moved here in late July 2021. Turns out, we moved to a lovely little place. It’s very pretty here. There’s lots of history (I’m a history nerd) and the countryside here is, well, truly lovely.
Abingdon also has lots of little nice things going for it. Pubs, lots of them. Regular crafts markets. An annual air show. An annual hot air balloon show. An annual Fun Fair, with a long, dark history of a pandemic (not this one!). I hear there’s even been some investigations into paranormal activity at some of the town’s older sites….
It’s so nice, that I’ve started to write things down and take pix. I hope I’ll find the time to post little blogs and photographs from time to time. Do check this site every now and then.
Or even better, come visit. You can sometimes find me helping out with tours of the Long Gallery.
